Psychology & Gamification to Counter Science Misinformation with Dr. John Cook — NJIT Cyberpsychology Seminar Series
Join us on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 11 a.m. for the next installment of the Cyberpsychology Seminar Series. Abstract: A number of psychological challenges hinder the countering of misinformation and science denial. Polarization on issues such as climate change and COVID-19 result in some segments of the population being more resistant to refutation strategies. Inoculation theory offers a solution to polarization, with experimental studies finding that inoculating messages neutralize the polarizing influence of misinformation on issues like climate change.

Leir Research Institute (LRI) Weekly Seminar Series — Martin Tuchman School of Management
From 1–2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3, the LRI hosts a discussion of “Problemistic search for India’s first lunar spacecraft.” Co-authored by Raja Roy (NJIT), M. Annadurai (former project director of the Indian Space Research Organization) and Soumodip Sarkar (University of Évora), the paper concentrates on India’s efforts to search for the solution to a complex technological problem. We find that organizations searching for solutions under those conditions rely on a mechanism that modifies the components, mitigates the interdependencies between the components in the complex system, and subsequently identifies the product architecture. To join, go to https://njit.webex.com/meet/rroy. Upcoming seminars can be found at https://centers.njit.edu/leir/spring21-seminars/.
