Campus Learning to Move to Remote-Only Instruction, 10-Day Lockdown — Office of the President
Starting Nov. 25, NJIT will transition to fully-remote instruction to align with the City of Newark’s 10-day lockdown. This mode of instruction will continue through the balance of the fall semester and is consistent with our Pandemic Recovery Plan. NJIT will remain open and operational during this 10-day lockdown period. Residence halls and food services will remain open for students permitted to remain on campus. The Van Houten library will provide virtual services only. All administrative offices will transition to telework from Wednesday, Nov. 25 through Friday, Dec. 4. ALICE Training Year Three — Office of Public Safety
NJIT is proud to be going into its third year utilizing the "ALICE" program and presented the training to the third incoming freshmen class as part of their orientation. Additionally, initiatives are continuing for delivery of the training to the returning and transfer student population. The program provides education, guidance and a systematic protocol to effectively deal with active threat situations. The next step includes the continued training of NJIT faculty and staff, a critical step in this training initiative's success.
In collaboration with the Department of Human Resources, we are proud to announce an online training program for all current faculty and staff via the Canvas learning management system. Our goal is to realize a minimum online training outcome of 100% of our current faculty and Staff by April 15, 2021 to achieve "Organizational Certification" from the ALICE Training Institute. The ALICE Training Institute provides training via three modules. A new module will be released each year via Canvas until the third module gets completed. More importantly, the training offers essential procedures and processes to help our faculty and staff to keep our students safe during an active threat situation, our primary responsibility.
For faculty and staff who took Part 1 and Part 2 training, please take Part 3 of the training program. Please start with Part 1 training for new faculty and staff, and second-year employees may begin with Part 2 of the training. The training can be accessed via https://canvas.njit.edu/.
We request your cooperation and assistance in coordinating these presentations through your respective designee to reach the maximum number of faculty and staff possible. Your guidance and help are much appreciated and integral in preparing the NJIT community for these incidents.
Together, we can maintain a safe learning and working campus environment for all.
