Andy Bruno and John Vogt Named 2020 Institute for Public Architecture Fellows
Pre/Post BQE Project Description
We propose a study of pre-BQE Brooklyn to understand how best to fill the void left by a removed BQE, which will draw upon historical documents such as maps, contemporary accounts, oral histories, archival photographs, and films. This process will inform an imagined Brooklyn and Queens without a BQE, where neighborhoods are stitched back together using a selectively developed green ribbon and with an eye towards creating new connections for a 21st-century New York City. We intend to engage with the portions of the BQE which pass through Brooklyn Community District 7 and Queens Community District 2 as a starting point for a broader study of the BQE as a whole.
