Alpha Kappa Psi Team Makes Top 10 in Business Competition's Preliminary Round
By Krishna Sutariya
Late last month NJIT’s chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity, won first place in the annual Case Competition held at each location of the Principled Business Leadership Institute (PBLI), “Alpha Kappa Psi’s annual flagship event where students and alumni interact with top professionals in business industries, gain insight on necessary industry-related skills, and develop a leadership development plan. It is designed for all individuals seeking to enhance their professional development.” The Chi Zeta chapter attended the PBLI held in Boston and competed against 15 other teams.
The question for the competition focused on Amazon’s decision to have a split HQ2, and teams were responsible for choosing a city they felt would best meet Amazon’s needs. The city the team chose had to meet certain criteria, some of which include access to mass transit routes, a location within 60 miles of an international airport and being a metropolitan area with a population of more than 1 million. Chi Zeta’s team members chose Philadelphia as their city and spent many hours researching and preparing a supporting case. Their poster, titled “Philadelphia: The Prime Candidate for HQ2,” was in the top 10 of the 15 posters at the competition, which gave the team the opportunity to present in person to the judges. Team members Noah Hubert, Riya Kurian and Joe McCann gave an outstanding presentation that, along with their superior poster, won them first place. They also credit their success to the support they received from fellow brothers Carlos Cespedes and Marvin Rivas.
Moving forward, the top two teams from each of the four PBLI locations will give a virtual presentation to the fraternity board of directors and the Alpha Kappa Psi Foundation board of directors, who will vote on one final winning team. We wish our team the best of luck as it pushes ahead in this competition.
