Over 200 Employers to Look for Talent at NJIT Spring Career Fair
Jobseekers, get ready. Some 220 employers are scheduled to attend NJIT’s Spring 2020 Career Fair, to be held Feb. 26 at the university’s Wellness and Events Center. Recruitment for internships, co-ops and full-time positions will be the name of the game at the biannual event, which typically draws thousands of students and alumni in search of jobs.
For employers, NJIT career fairs offer a valuable opportunity to meet prospective talent in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, as well as architecture, design and other hot fields. The Walsh Group, a fourth-generation, family-owned construction management services firm with 20 regional offices across North America, hired three full-time project engineers and one summer intern through the Fall 2019 Career Fair, which marked its first time at the event.
“Overall, the career fair was a success and provided us with diverse candidates who not only excel academically, but are a good personality fit for the company culture that we strive to achieve,” remarked Lauren Pagone, regional recruiter for The Walsh Group. “When we scout for project engineers and internship roles, we look for someone who communicates well with others and is willing to learn.
“We look forward to continuing a partnership with NJIT in the future!” she added.
Sal Calabro, associate specialist and information technology emerging talent recruiter for the multinational Merck & Co., noted, “We are constantly impressed by the students at NJIT that can carry a conversation about our company, our products or even just the health care industry. It leaves a lasting impression and makes us recruiters feel like we’re the ones being pursued!”
Merck’s IT Emerging Talent Intern Program, says Calabro, enables students to explore different areas within the company’s IT organization. Through the Fall 2019 Career Fair, Merck, too, found recruiting success with the hiring of two interns for the program this summer.
Both The Walsh Group and Merck will be at the upcoming fair. Carolyn Jandoli ’90, the pharmaceutical company’s senior director of client engineering and collaboration, offered that Merck will be looking “for students that have a passion and energy to learn more and to share their past school and work experiences. We also look for students that have classroom knowledge and experience … in working well in teams and being able to collaborate and communicate.”
