NJIT Women's Fencing Posts 5-1 Mark at FDU Invitational

The NJIT women's fencing team posted a 5-1 mark at the FDU Invitational Sunday afternoon.
NJIT recorded wins over Wagner (18-8), Tufts (20-7), Brandeis (14-13), Drew (15-12) and CCNY (22-5). The lone loss on the day for the Highlanders came against NYU (16-11).
The foil squad was led by Annalena Shigihara, who posted an 11-5 overall record followed by Paloma Almodovar with a 10-6 record. For the season, Almodovar posted a 44-17 mark with a 72 percent win rate.
The Highlander epee squad notched a 44-10 mark led by Marina Arrese with a 16-1 overall mark. Senior Maria Sztan notched a 15-2 mark while sophomore Christy Hernandez posted 10 wins. For the season, Arrese is 59-7 overall with an 89 percent win rate.
The NJIT saber squad recorded 28 wins, paced by Cristina Garcia Mendicino with a 13-5 overall mark. Amanda Soliman added 12 wins for the Highlanders on the saber strip.
