Men's Volleyball Wins Third Straight, Sweeps Rutgers-Newark

Junior opposite Piotr Namiotko paced NJIT with a match-best 11 kills in the Highlanders 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-13) straight set sweep over Rutgers-Newark at the Golden Dome Classic Saturday afternoon.
NJIT, winners of its last three matches, improves to 3-4 on the season while the Scarlet Raiders move to an even 1-1 on the young season.
The Highlanders hit .364 for the match and hit an impressive .455 in the second set, producing 13 kills on 22 attempts with just three errors.
In addition to Namiotko, two Highlanders — Jens Feldthus and Alvaro Gimeno each combined for seven kills while middle Enrique de Diego Garcia hit .833 for the match, posting five kills on six attempts.
NJIT split time at the setting position, led by freshman Roque Nido with 19 assists and Ricardo Whitaker with eight. Libero Chris Wise shared match-high honors with Rutgers-Newark's Elan Dorkhman with five digs. Middle Luca Berger combined for six total blocks (all assists) while Namiotko added three block assists.
The Scarlet Raiders were led by Dorkhman with five kills and Travis Emenaker posted 14 assists and four digs.
NJIT will break for two weeks and return to action on February 5 at Kean in Union, N.J. First spike is slated for 7:30 p.m.
