NJIT and Raritan Valley Community College to Host Construction & Utilities Talent Network Summit
Industry professionals will come together to speak on women in construction and utilities and workforce development aimed at the youth demographic.
WHO: The Construction & Utilities Talent Network-North (CUTN-N) will feature two panels with industry professionals and tactile, knowledge-building vendor workshops. Co-led by New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) and Raritan Valley Community College in the northern and central part of the state, CUTN-N connects to businesses, educational institutions, workforce organizations, training groups and community- and faith-based organizations to gather ground-level intelligence on the industry to make informed decisions on high-quality public workforce investments. The Talent Network and event is funded by the NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development, with additional event sponsorship by ROI-NJ.
Keynote speakers are Marjorie Perry, president and CEO of MZM Construction Company, and Robert Asaro-Angelo, commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
WHAT: The CUTN-N Industry Summit will feature two panels. The first panel, “Work-Based Learning Apprenticeships/Internships Models for our Youth,” will be moderated by Sally Nadler, assistant dean/director of the Douglass Project for Women in STEM at Douglass Residential College Rutgers University. Panelists include: Matthew Allen, director of human resources and operations for the German American Chamber of Commerce; Carl Evans, managing partner for NextWave Safety Solutions; Dave Gehrke, structured learning experience state coordinator with the New Jersey Department of Education; Judy Savage, executive director at New Jersey Council of County Vocational-Technical Schools; and Brittany Yesner, industrial engineering major - Douglass Residential College and Rutgers School of Engineering - Class of 2019 and intern at South Jersey Industries.
The second panel, “Women in Construction & Utilities,” will be moderated by Deborah Degillio, president of New Jersey American Water and senior vice president, eastern division of American Water. Panelists include: Anne Marie Almasi, president of Almasi Companies, LLC; Brittney Kovery, staff engineer at SUEZ North America; Shauntel Martinez, distribution manager of Electric Construction Overhead at PSE&G; and Yajaira “Jay” Torres, council representative with Keystone Mountain Lakes Regional Council of Carpenters.
John Dolan, director of Continuing Technical Education, from the Essex County Schools of Technology will provide a glimpse of how vo-techs prepare our youth. Michelle Kolpak, industry specialist, NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development, will provide the audience with a construction and utilities sector analysis. Geoff Rolstone, senior electrical commodity analyst at Bloom Energy, will share his insight on clean energy initiatives in New Jersey and across the nation.
Gale Spak, associate vice president of Continuing Professional Education at NJIT, will deliver welcome remarks. Basil C. Baltzis, senior vice provost for Academic Affairs and Student Services and the director of the Institute for Teaching Excellence at NJIT, will also address the audience, as well as Michael McDonough, president of Raritan Valley Community College. The Construction & Utilities Talent Network Co-Directors Juan Gonzalez and Annamaria Lalevee will emcee the event.
