Ying Wu College of Computing Capstone Showcase May 2
The Spring 2018 Ying Wu College of Computing (YWCC) Capstone and Real World Connections (RWC) Showcase will take place Wednesday, May 2, in the Campus Center Ballroom 2-5 p.m.
The biannual showcase will feature the work of 27 YWCC capstone industry teams and 16 entrepreneurship teams made up of NJIT students, demonstrating their accomplishments working on projects for leading industry organizations like UPS, ManufactureNJ and the New Jersey judiciary system.
For the first time, the showcase will also double as an emerging tech conference ledby the New Jersey Chapter of The International Information System Security Certification Consortium (ISC)², a nonprofit organization specializing in training and certifications for cybersecurity professionals. Many of the capstone students will attend the (ISC)² cybersecurity morning workshops as part of their coursework.
“This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity,” said Capstone Director and Senior University Lecturer Osama Eljabiri about the showcase, which will be the largest in YWCC history. “The integration of both events is of great value to our students and the university.”
Additionally, as part of the RWC program – a STEM education platform that provides a special approach to teaching and learning by placing middle-and-high-school students in the driver’s seat of their own education – 75 students from multiple local school districts will present their midprogram project presentations, which include Android app development, professional filmmaking and web development.
The showcase will feature a CISO panel, speakers and industry experts from top companies and educational institutions, such as Verizon, Bank of America, NYU, NJIT and Cornell University.
Immediately following the showcase, a panel of judges will announce the winning teams at an award ceremony, featuring keynote speaker Raj Tiwari, a technology manager at Johnson & Johnson. Tiwari will discuss the future of digital innovation and how to harness opportunities in a transforming world. A renowned digital innovation futurist and thought leader, Tiwari has contributed his keen insights and global expertise to help numerous Fortune 100 companies.
