Women's Tennis Wins Fifth Straight Match, Defeats URI 4-1

The NJIT women's tennis team won its fifth straight match of the season with a 4-1 victory over URI Saturday at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.

"URI is a well coached hard working team. I am proud of the determination of the NJIT women today. They have worked hard the past few weeks and it shows with their play on the court. Another strong doubles performance today as well!"
NJIT won the doubles point and registered three wins in singles competition to come away with the 4-1 home victory and remaining perfect at home (5-0).
The Highlanders Laura Wipfli/Irene Cocero were victorious at first doubles, picking up a 6-4 win. Wipfli combined for a 7-5, 6-7 (3), 6-4 win at first singles while Cocero, competing at the fourth spot, won by identical scores, 6-4, 6-4.
Paula Menendez Alvarez won in straight sets at second singles, 6-4, 6-1 and Arina Babkova and Feyza Aydin's matches were abandoned at the fifth and sixth spot as NJIT had secured the victory, 4-1.
