NJIT Selected to Join AAC&U's Institute on Artificial Intelligence
In a significant step toward advancing the integration of artificial intelligence in higher education, NJIT has been chosen to participate in the inaugural Institute on AI, Pedagogy, and Curriculum, organized by the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). This initiative brings together institutions to address the transformative potential and challenges of AI in shaping the future of education.
Launched in September 2024, the institute will work together with faculty, staff and administrators from over 120 higher education institutions to collaborate, develop and implement AI action plans across campuses. Throughout the 2024-2025 academic year, NJIT’s team will engage in virtual events, mentorship and ongoing collaborations to integrate AI-driven approaches into curricula, enhance student outcomes and foster innovation in teaching.
“AI has already begun transforming educational environments, and our participation in this institute underscores our commitment to ensuring our students and faculty are prepared to harness AI technologies as we work to shape the future of an NJIT education,” said John A. Pelesko, provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs.
NJIT’s membership is represented by:
- Nikki Bosca, director of the newly-announced Center for Educational Innovation and Excellence
- Marybeth Boger, dean of students and vice president for student affairs
- Laurent Simon, vice president for undergraduate studies
- Ioannis Koutis, associate professor of computer science
- Justine Krawiec, director of learning technologies
As part of the institute, NJIT will focus on key goals, including developing training for AI literacy, exploring ethical considerations, refining teaching methods and adopting new approaches to assignments and grading. The university aims to create actionable, evidence-based models that will personalize learning experiences and equip students with essential AI competencies needed for future careers.
