EPA Awards Multimillion Dollar Grant to Brownfield Cleanup Team

NJIT is part of a team led by Kansas State University that has been awarded several million dollars by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to provide technical assistance nationwide and to all tribal governments interested in cleaning up brownfield sites.

Since 2008, with funding provided by the EPA, the NJIT Technical Assistance to Brownfields Communities Program (NJIT TAB) has been providing free technical assistance to government entities and nonprofits interested in learning about, identifying, assessing, cleaning up and redeveloping brownfield sites. Currently, NJIT is the EPA designated TAB provider in EPA Regions 1, 3 and 4.

By teaming with Kansas State University, NJIT expands its geographical reach and its ability to serve as an independent resource assisting tribal communities, as well as other governmental entities and nonprofits in better understanding: the health impacts of brownfield sites; science and technology relating to brownfield site assessment, remediation and site preparation activities; brownfield funding and financing; and integrated approaches to brownfield cleanup and redevelopment, amongst other topics.
