Remembering Dr. Robert E. Lynch: Beloved Professor Honored with Memorial Collection

On June 22, 2023, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) lost a beloved community member in the passing of Robert E. Lynch. James Wise Professor of Theater and Emeritus Professor of English. Dr. Lynch died in his home in Mount Arlington, New Jersey. He taught at NJIT for 41 years and served in many leading roles, including chair of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences.
In memory of Dr. Lynch’s contributions to teaching, research and administration, his colleagues, friends and family have published a memorial collection. Released on April 7, 2024, the volume is edited by Fadi P. Deek, distinguished professor of Informatics at NJIT who worked closely with Dr. Lynch when he served for a decade as dean of the College of Science and Liberal Arts; Robert Friedman, Dr. Lynch’s associate chair from 2004-2008 and dean at four other public universities; and Norbert Elliot, professor emeritus of English at NJIT and a close collaborator of Dr. Lynch.
The edited collection offers reminisces by people who knew and loved Dr. Lynch, including his wife, children, grandchildren and other family members, as well as friends and colleagues from different periods of his life, from early childhood through seniority.

Lynch: A Life Celebrated" pays homage to a remarkable individual and tells the story of his personal and professional accomplishments, highlighting his four decades of contributions to NJIT leading to the advancement of our university and the success of our students.
