Siani Magruder Earns United Soccer Coaches All-Region Honors
NJIT women's soccer grad defender Siani Magruder was named to one of the United Soccer Coaches Division I All-Region teams, the coaches' organization announced Wednesday afternoon.
Magruder was selected to the All-Atlantic Region Third Team and was one of seven America East women's soccer players to earn All-Region honors. The Egg Harbor Township native is the first Highlander to be named All-Region since Fiona Wright earned All-South honors in 2018.
Magruder was selected to the AE second team for the second straight year and became the first Highlander since Arianna Gerber (2016 ASUN Second Team, 2018 ASUN First Team) to earn multiple First or Second Team All-Conference accolades from the same league in a career. Including her 2019 ASUN Second Team honor, Magruder is the first Highlander in program history to earn three All-Conference team awards in a career.
The defensive stalwart helped NJIT finish third in the America East in opponent scoring average (1.11) and goals allowed (20) while shutting out opponents six times. Magruder-led teams have accounted for 30 shutouts over the past five seasons, including the two best defensive campaigns in NJIT history - 2018 and 2021 (school record nine shutouts each).
Magruder added a second goal to her career ledger in NJIT's season finale at Bryant on October 27, a penalty kick game-winner that helped the Highlanders secure their second straight America East playoff berth in its three-year league history. Magruder also has an America East Defensive Player of the Week honor to her credit (September 7, 2021).
In the classroom, Magruder was recently named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Division I Women's Soccer Academic All-District Team alongside teammate Molly Saylor. A six-time Dean's List honoree, Magruder graduated Cum Laude in Spring 2022 with a 3.504 GPA and a Bachelor's degree in Biology and is currently in NJIT's Masters of Business Administration program.
