The NJIT women's soccer team took a break from its America East schedule to wrap up its non-conference slate and put on a dominant performance in a 4-0 shutout over the Delaware State Hornets Friday evening at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
THE RUNDOWN
- The Highlanders (3-6-5, 0-3-1 AE) picked up their third win of the year in a game that they controlled from the outset. NJIT posted a season-high 31 shots to mark the first time since 2019 that the team has recorded at least 30 in a game (30 vs Saint Peter's Aug. 31, 2019).
- Freshman Kelsey Ramos, senior Bailey Chant and sophomore Caroline Caputo joined sophomore Ciara Adams atop the Highlander goals leaderboard by each scoring their second goals of the year. Freshman Briana Andreoli joined the scoring with the first goal of her career.
- After forcing Delaware State (0-13) into a turnover off a goal kick, Ramos got NJIT on the board (32') by finishing a clinical connection started by freshman Riley Jones - who made her first career start Friday - and bridged by Chant.
- Andreoli - who has impressed with her speed in her inaugural college campaign - extended NJIT's lead in blazing fast fashion. On the first bit of action - seventeen seconds after checking into the game - Andreoli headed home a back post service ball (36') from grad Angela Harris.
- Chant and Caputo decided to add to the Highlander ledger on their own in the second half with a pair of unassisted goals. Sophomore Ciara Adams drew a foul at the intersection of the 18 yard box and the semicircle above it and Chant (60') sent an upper 90 blast to the top right side of goal to push the advantage to 3-0.
- Caputo's goal (86') ended up in nearly the same spot as Chant's but she took a more circuitous route to get there. After taking a pass from Ramos within the 18 yard box, Caputo navigated through four Hornet defenders and put the shot away.
- Redshirt senior Molly Saylor and sophomore Samantha Constantine split goalkeeper duties on Friday and combined to give NJIT its sixth shutout of the year. For Saylor, it was her easiest outing of the campaign - no saves made after facing no shots on goal in the first half. For Constantine, her 45 minutes were the first game minutes of her career and she recorded her first three career saves
- Overall, NJIT outshot DSU 31-7 (9-3 SOG), including a 22-1 edge in the first half, and posted eight more corner kicks (10-2) in the contest.

- NJIT's last eleven wins as a program have all been shutouts. The last time NJIT won a game that was not a clean sheet was its 3-1 season opening win over Drexel to open the 2020 (Spring 2021) campaign.
