Track and Field Ends Metropolitan Outdoors With Seven More Medals

The NJIT track and field teams traveled back to Icahn Stadium in full force on Saturday for the final day of the Metropolitan Outdoor Championships.The two-day meet ended with the Highlander women taking seventh place overall (40 pts) and the Highlander men placing eighth (45 points).
Leigh also earned NJIT's lone individual win at Mets after taking the high jump crown with a leap of 1.95m / 6-4.75 (9 pts) and took bronze in the 100 meters (10.71, 6 pts), and fourth in the 200 meters (21.76, 5 pts).
Van Saders added a silver in the 400 hurdles (54.91, 8 pts) and a bronze in the 110 hurdles (15.35, 6 pts).
FRIDAY'S TOP THREE SCORING EFFORTS
Daniella Vito continued her strong outdoor debut season with a silver medal in the Javelin (8 points), logging a toss of 39.50m / 129-7.00 that was less than a meter away from the school record she set in her first meet at Monmouth two weeks ago.
Nance also came in fourth place in the 200 meters after posting a time of 25.18 (5 pts).
Kendall Caballero was fifth in the long jump after registering a mark of 5.24m / 17-2.25 (4 pts).
Katherine Castano took seventh place in the 5000 meters with a 19:44.97 finish (2 pts).
Otto placed sixth in the high jump with a mark of 1.46m / 4-9.50 (3 pts) and seventh in the 100 Hurdles with a 15.97 time (2 pts).
Holloway added an eighth place long jump effort to her day after leaping 5.08m / 16-8.00 (1 pt).
Michael Girock ended the 400 meters in eighth place after posting a time of 49.94 (1 pt).
Samuel Manu and Waheeb Khan also took eighth in their respective events, the triple jump (12.89m / 42-3.50, 1 pt) and the long jump (6.36m / 20-10.50, 1 pt).
NEXT UP NJIT will compete back in Jersey next weekend af Princeton's Larry Ellis Invite April 15-16.
