NJIT Well Represented on ROI-NJ's 2020 Industry Influencers List
ROI-NJ, a publication that reports on New Jersey economic news, released its annual ROI Influencers Power List profiling the most powerful people in various industries in New Jersey. Featured on this year’s list are six NJIT leaders representing four industry areas: education, technology, healthcare and executive leadership.
On the list are Joel S. Bloom, NJIT’s president; Donald Sebastian, president of New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII), an NJIT corporation; Simon Nynens, CEO of NJII; Tomas Gregorio, NJII’s senior executive director, Healthcare Systems Innovation; Marjorie Perry, CEO of MZM Construction & Management and NJIT’s chair of the Board of Overseers; and Gary Dahms, Chairman and CEO T&M Associates and member of NJIT's Board of Trustees.
Bloom is featured on the education industry influencer list. As president, he has overseen NJIT’s upward trajectory that includes climbing into top 100 ranking in national universities from U.S. News and World Report; gaining an R1 designation by the Carnegie Classification® indicating “very high research activity,” a distinction held by only 131 universities in the country and three in New Jersey; and increasing NJIT’s state-wide economic impact to $2.8 billion.
Together, Sebastian and Nynens are leading NJII and featured on the technology influencer list. Nynens, the former chairman of Wayside Technology Group and the chair of the New Jersey Tech Council, has been at NJII since 2018, when he was brought in to help lead VentureLink, the oldest and largest tech incubator in the state. Sebastian’s leadership at NJII has driven notable economic impacts on New Jersey business, including an independent assessment that credits the organization as having a $1.3 billion economic impact in the state, in addition to NJII’s own top-line revenue to nearly $90 million per year.
Gregorio and his team within NJII are working with payers and providers to support the industry's widely adopted triple aim of improving patient experience, improving population health and reducing the cost of healthcare. Recently, NJII and the New Jersey Department of Health developed the Master Person Index, which securely connects and shares patient information under the New Jersey Health Information Network (NJHIN). NJHIN has the potential to seamlessly connect medical records across any and all health care providers, ensuring the information is accurate, up to date and secure.
Perry’s inclusion on the executive leadership list says she “inspires by being a tell-it-like-it-is tough leader and executive.” Her accomplishments include helming a multimillion dollar construction and management enterprise; becoming the first woman and first African-American chair of the NJIT Board of Overseers; and, in 2012, was inducted into the New Jersey Business Hall of Fame.
Dahms oversees one of the biggest and most important civil engineering firms in the state, and also makes sure his team is active in the community. Additionally, he serves as second vice chair of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce.
