New Jersey Institute of Technology has been named the No. 1 midsize employer in New Jersey and No. 64 nationwide on Forbes’ 2026 list of America’s Best Midsize Employers. The recognition places NJIT among the top workplaces in the United States and highlights the university’s continued strength not only as a leading public research institution, but also as an employer of choice.
The annual ranking, compiled by Forbes in partnership with global research firm Statista, is based on one of the nation’s largest independent employee surveys. More than 217,000 U.S. employees working for organizations with 1,000 to 5,000 employees were surveyed anonymously. Participants evaluated their employers across a range of criteria, including workplace environment, compensation and benefits, professional development opportunities, organizational culture and their likelihood of recommending their employer to others.
The ranking methodology is entirely independent. Organizations cannot nominate themselves or influence their placement. Results are determined solely through direct employee feedback and statistical analysis conducted by Statista, ensuring an objective assessment of workplace quality and employee satisfaction. The recognition is an illustration of NJIT’s commitment to fostering a supportive and collaborative work environment aligned with its broader institutional mission.
As a leading public polytechnic university and major research institution, NJIT employs thousands of professionals across academic, scientific, administrative and operational roles. The university’s workplace culture emphasizes innovation, professional growth and shared purpose, contributing to its ability to attract and retain top talent in higher education, research and industry-facing initiatives.
NJIT’s ranking as the top midsize employer in the state also highlights its role as a key contributor to New Jersey’s economic and workforce development. As one of the state’s premier public research universities, NJIT supports innovation, industry partnerships and talent development while maintaining a workplace environment that prioritizes employee engagement and professional advancement.
“Being ranked the No. 1 midsize employer in New Jersey is an extraordinary reflection of the people who make NJIT what it is,” said Teik C. Lim, president of NJIT. “This recognition is especially meaningful because it comes directly from the experiences and voices of our own employees. Their commitment to our mission, to one another and to the success of our students creates the culture that earned this distinction. I am grateful for their dedication and proud that NJIT continues to be seen as both a leading research university and an exceptional place to build a career.”
