NJIT Men's Soccer Announces Schedule for 2022 Campaign
NJIT men's soccer head coach Fernando Barboto announced the upcoming 2022 season schedule, a 16-match slate that features nine road matches, including two first-time opponents UConn and Villanova and six home matches set to be played at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
The Highlanders first seven matches will take place on the road as NJIT kicks off opening weekend against Drexel (Aug. 25) and James Madison (Aug. 28). Both matches will be played at James Madison.
NJIT will visit first-time opponent UConn (Sept. 2) from the Big East, Iona (Sept. 7), La Salle (Sept. 10), first-time opponent Villanova (Sept. 14) and Rider (Sept. 18). Villanova finished the 2021 season with 12 wins and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The first official home match of the season will feature the Highlanders hosting Sacred Heart (Sept. 20). NJIT last defeated Sacred Heart, 7-0 in 2019 and holds a 6-2 all-time record.
NJIT will begin its third season in the America East Conference after a pair of semifinal appearances in 2020 and 2021. The Highlanders will open league action on the road and close out the month of September at UMass Lowell (Sept. 24).
The Highlanders will host a pair of matches to begin October, first welcoming Binghamton (Oct. 1) and defending America East Champions New Hampshire on Homecoming Weekend (Oct. 8). The Wildcats finished last season with an impressive 17-2-2 overall mark, 7-0-1 in conference action while advancing to the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
NJIT will travel to Vermont (Oct. 15) before returning to Newark to host two matches against Hartford (Oct. 18) and UAlbany (Oct. 22).
The Highlanders will wrap up its road slate at UMBC (Oct. 28) and conclude the regular season at home against Bryant (Nov. 1), who officially joined the America East Conference on July 1, 2022.
The 2022 America East Postseason Tournament begins on Nov. 5 with the quarterfinal round. The semifinals will be held Nov. 10 and the finals are set for Nov. 13.
