New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has announced the appointment of Moshe Kam, Dean of NJIT’s Newark College of Engineering (NCE) and Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, as the university’s Interim Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, effective August 4, 2026.
Kam has served as dean of NCE since 2014 and is both a renowned scholar and academic leader. During his time at NJIT, Kam has led several highly impactful initiatives, including the establishment of the School of Applied Engineering and Technology, the creation of the Materials Engineering, General Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering Technology degree programs, the launch and expansion of NJIT’s Makerspace, and the opening of the Advanced Air Mobility Lab as well as the Life Sciences Motion Capture Lab. He also has orchestrated the hiring of nearly 70 new NCE faculty members and has driven significant increases in the volume, reach, and external funding of scholarly research across the College.
Prior to joining NJIT, Kam was Head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Drexel University. He also served on the boards of directors of the United Engineering Foundation, ABET, and IEEE. In 2011, he was elected President and CEO of IEEE.
Kam earned his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Tel Aviv University and completed his Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees at Drexel University. His areas of scholarly research are detection and estimation, navigation, image processing and data fusion, and he has been advisor to 38 graduate students who have earned Ph.D. degrees.
