An NJIT-led team of engineers, game designers, artists and clinicians won two major international awards for its vision therapy platform, including “most innovative breakthrough,” at the 2018 Augmented World Expo Europe (AWE EU), the leading industry conference for augmented reality technology.

Rajesh Davé, a problem-driven inventor whose groundbreaking methods for re-engineering tiny particles have fueled advances in such diverse areas as weapons safety and drug delivery systems, has been named a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).

Gale Tenen Spak, associate vice president of Continuing and Distance Education at NJIT, has been named one of the Top 25 Leading Women Intraprenuers by Leading Women Entrepreneurs and its presenting sponsor. Spak and the other honorees were feted at a special awards reception and ceremony on Oct. 15.

Baraka, Newark Community Economic Development Corporation, the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) and Intersection, the leading smart cities technology and media company, today officially launched LinkNWK (pronounced “Link Newark”), activating Newark’s first Link kiosks that deliver super fast, secure Wi-Fi and other services at no cost to taxpayers or users.

Municipal leaders, academic presenters, as well as chief technology, information and analytics officers from across the country gathered at NJIT’s Wellness and Events Center Oct. 15 and 16 for the MetroLab Network 2018 Annual Summit. The conference centered on leveraging city-university partnerships to deliver technology, data and analytics to local government and drive civic innovation.

Freshman Fiona Wright netted a pair of goals in the Highlanders' 2-1 victory over visiting Kennesaw State in ASUN Conference action at Kean University East Campus Facility. NJIT, winners of its last five-out-of-six contests, improves to 5-2 in the ASUN, 11-4-1 overall while the Owls move to 5-2 in the league, 12-4-1 overall. With the win, the Highlanders which clinched its first-ever postseason appearance in the ASUN Conference, moved into the top spot in the ASUN (15 points) after tallying three points in the win over the Owls.

NJIT registered its first ASUN Conference win of the season with a 2-0 shutout victory over visiting Stetson Saturday evening in league action at Kean University East Campus Facility. NJIT moves to 1-3-0 in the ASUN, 6-7 overall, snapping a six-match skid, while Stetson stands at 0-2-1 in the ASUN, 5-7-1 overall. The Highlanders scored both goals in the second half to secure the 2-0 victory. Redshirt sophomore Rene White scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season and ranks tied for first in the ASUN in total goals.

DADDY'S LITTLE GIRL​ Toni Vasquez-Shawan ’10 was in the sixth grade when she started her architecture career as a telephone receptionist at T.I. Vasquez Architects & Planners, Inc. (TVAP), a Manila-based architecture firm founded in 1993 by her father Topy Vasquez. The design bug bit her while accompanying Topy on a site visit. After graduating from the University of Santo Tomas in 2007 with a B.S. in architecture, she acquired a full-time position at TVAP, working under the supervision of a project architect.
