Gov. Phil Murphy has named eight people, including NJIT President Joel S. Bloom, to the recently re-established New Jersey Commission on Science, Technology and Innovation in conjunction with his efforts to strengthen New Jersey’s innovation economy.

This year, NJIT’s College of Science and Liberal Arts has announced it will offer students a unique baccalaureate degree option in the emerging field of cyberpsychology. The new program — exploring the dynamics between modern technology and human psychology — is the first of its kind in New Jersey, and is the first academic program in the behavioral sciences to be offered at NJIT.

Graduate student Kelly Guarino set the NJIT all-time record for three-pointers (224), netting 18 points in the Highlanders 66-60 victory over visiting Kennesaw State to open ASUN Conference action Saturday afternoon at NJIT's Wellness and Events Center. The win for the Highlanders over Kennesaw State marks the first all-time win for NJIT, since joining the ASUN Conference in 2015-16.

Senior Abdul Lewis crossed 1,000 career points and sophomore Zach Cooks netted up 19 points in NJIT's win over Kennesaw State, 72-52, in ASUN Conference action at the Wellness and Events Center on Saturday. Kennesaw State (3-13, 0-1 ASUN) took charge in the first half, taking a 30-23 lead into the break, before the Highlanders (13-3) came roaring back in the second half, outscoring the Owls, 49-22.

The NJIT Highlanders (11-2) are off to a historic start in 2018-19.

For Dina Ayman’s parents, the road to medical school beckoned enticingly to their gifted daughter, a driven student with a love for math and science. The profession, they argued, would eagerly welcome a woman of her talents. But Ayman ’18, M.S. ’18, did not hear that call. And she resisted.

College Factual ranks NJIT’s mechanical engineering program in the Top 15 percent of all mechanical engineering programs in the United States. Mechanical engineering at NJIT moved up 14 slots over last year, from No. 53 to No. 39, out of 272 schools nationwide.
