NJIT split its ASUN Conference doubleheader with North Alabama Friday with the Lions earning an 8-1 victory in game one and the Highlanders, taking the nightcap, 10-0, behind a strong pitching performance from junior RHP Tyler Stafflinger and six runs batted in from sophomore Paul Franzoni at Mike D. Lane Field.

NJIT senior Abdul Lewis and sophomore Zach Cooks were named to the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Division I team for the 2018-19 season Chuck Stogel, president of the Met Writers, announced. Lewis, who concluded his collegiate career with 1,247 points and 1,000 rebounds, was named to the second team while teammate Cooks, who averaged 17.6ppg, the third highest scoring total in school-history, earned third team honors. The 86th annual Met Writers Awards banquet was held on Tuesday, April 30 at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, NY.

On May 1, the annual springtime celebration of NJIT’s College of Science and Liberal Arts (CSLA) kicked off, marking a year of highlights throughout the arts and sciences at the college during the 2019 CSLA Awards Ceremony.

“We saw when you came in as freshmen, and you thought you knew it all. Then you realized after the first week of the summer program, do I really know anything?” reminisced Crystal Smith, interim director of NJIT’s Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), while addressing EOP graduating seniors, their parents and university staff and faculty. “And then you made it through to this awards ceremony for us to celebrate you.”

NJIT’s Ying Wu College of Computing to offer data science programs in Jersey City Starting fall 2019, New Jersey Institute of Technology’s (NJIT) Ying Wu College of Computing (YWCC) will offer part-time and full-time graduate-level programs in data science at a location just steps from the Exchange Place PATH station in the waterfront district of Jersey City. The new location will expand NJIT’s $2.8 billion annual impact on the state’s economy by serving New Jersey residents working in the nearby emerging tech hub of New York City.

These statistics are just some indicators of a much larger global health crisis. But what possible role can technology play in addressing this crisis and what can biomedical engineers do to help? Can simply donating medical equipment from developed countries to underdeveloped regions solve the problem?

Senior shortstop Justin Etts drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth in NJIT's 7-6 ASUN Conference victory over visiting Kennesaw State Sunday afternoon at Bainton Field on the campus of Rutgers University. NJIT snaps a five-game skid, improving to 13-23-1 overall, 5-13 in the ASUN while Kennesaw State moves to 22-24 overall, 7-8 in the ASUN.

The Solar Decathlon exhibition opened Monday April 15 at the Littmann Library at the College of Architecture and Design. The exhibition documents the design and construction of the solar house that was built as part of the final phase of Solar Decathlon China, a competition by the U.S. Department of Energy. The interdisciplinary team of NJIT engineering, interior design and architecture students was led by Han Yan, Ph.D. student in urban systems, and Gernot Riether, director of the School of Architecture at NJIT.
