Students returning to New Jersey Institute of Technology this fall will notice a flurry of enhancements across campus. From the finishing touches to the Wellness and Events Center to an expansion of the Makerspace at NJIT, the campus continues to improve and expand to meet the needs of students, faculty and staff.

Kurt Rohloff, a professor of computer science at NJIT’s Ying Wu College of Computing, has been awarded the prestigious DARPA Director’s Fellowship from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

Vincent Naimoli, a 1962 graduate of the Newark College of Engineering (now New Jersey Institute of Technology) and namesake of the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility, has died. He was 81.

A five-woman team of undergraduate engineering students is tackling a problem experienced by a diverse and growing population: balance instability. For the elderly, people recovering from strokes and accidents or those living with disorders that affect movement, such as Parkinson’s disease, falls present the risk of grave injury. With funding from the Hearst Foundations, the team is taking aim at the mechanics that lie at the heart of the problem, determining with precision – and on a step-by-step basis – when, where and how an individual loses stability.

The Department of NJIT Athletics will hold its 21st Annual Highlanders Golf Classic, presented by GTS Consultants on Monday, September 16, 2019, at Edgewood Country Club in River Vale, NJ. The Highlanders Golf Classic is one of the largest fundraisers for the athletics department and paves the way to a bright new era. It was an intense seven-week program of math enrichment in algebra, pre-calculus and calculus, coupled with college and SAT prep, and on-campus recreation. When it concluded Aug. 9 at a ceremony in the Campus Center Atrium, the 35 rising 12th-graders who participated in the inaugural NJIT/Newark Math Success Initiative (MSI) looked back on their accomplishments with pride and happily accepted their certificates of achievement.

The Makerspace at NJIT, New Jersey Institute of Technology’s training-focused, rapid prototyping facility, is the winner of a $125,000 award from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to advance careers in advanced manufacturing.

Like many young New Jersey commuters making the morning trek through the Lincoln Tunnel into New York City, Jenessey Amparo-Rosario Morel would shuffle through her phone’s music playlist to find familiar star names like Rihanna, Shakira and Jay-Z. However, for Morel, those particular popular artists would also become clients, and even her new boss, as she entered work for her first day of a three-month co-op role this past February.
