A blow to the head or powerful shock wave on the battlefield can cause immediate, significant damage to a person’s skull and the tissue beneath it. But the trauma does not stop there. The impact sets off a chemical reaction in the brain that ravages neurons and the networks that supply them with nutrients and oxygen.

An augmented and virtual reality educational game developed by the NJIT MIXR Laboratory, which is a dual project of the Ying Wu College of Computing and Hillier College of Architecture and Design, is being showcased at an important conference in Silicon Valley this month.

“I was afraid of numbers, so this was the opportunity to get some extra training, get some extra help over the summer,” said LaTosha Wilson of her participation in pre-college programs at NJIT. “It was a chance to keep me focused.”

Students wishing to understand the chaos of national politics might listen to Cody Buntain, a new assistant professor in the Ying Wu College of Computing informatics department, who said it succinctly: "Look away from the phone." Buntain joined NJIT this year to teach computer ethics and to research how computing systems can be built more resilient against misinformation campaigns.

Mechanical engineering major, Elijah Mathew, spent his summer interning with Stryker. Through NJIT's career fair, Elijah found the operations intern position and has earned a spot on the Top 100 Intern list on nationalinternday.com.

For the second year in a row, the Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) program at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is ranked number two in the nation by College Factual, a data analytics and research company that focuses on outcomes. Only Georgia Tech is ranked higher on the list of 206 programs evaluated, while MIT is third.

According to NJIT Career Development Services’ most recent annual report, almost one-fifth of undergrads from the Class of 2018 who reported full-time employment indicated an NJIT career fair as their source. That figure certainly demonstrates the value of students attending the fair, to both mingle with prospective employers and leave a lasting impression on recruiters. But vital to the mix in landing a position is preparedness.
