Message from NJIT President Bloom - Black History Month
Dear NJIT Community Members,
As we begin the month of February, NJIT is proud to celebrate Black History Month. Diversity is among our university’s greatest strengths, and I encourage everytone to take advantage of the many opportunities we have created to expand our collective knowledge of and appreciation for a broad array of cultures and histories.
Each year, we plan educational, social, entertaining, and community building
events that extend throughout this month-long celebration. We do so because this university community embraces diversity and recognizesd its value. It has been demonstrated through numerous studies that diversity contributes to positive learning outcomes as well as enhanced success among work teams that consist of individuals with varied backgrounds, perspectives, ethnicities, races, belief systems, and socio-economic statuses. That clearly is evident at NJIT.
A calendar of Black History Month events can be found at https://tinyurl.com/w9npmdz, and this year NJIT welcomes Dr. Calvin Mackie as the keynote speaker for our Black History Month Opening Ceremony on February 5 at 2:30 pm in the Campus Center Atrium. Dr. Mackie is an acclaimed author, internationally renowned motivational speaker, and successful entrepreneur.
Each of us should take advantage of the many opportunities we have planned for the month ahead to learn, discuss, and celebrate, because the way we respect and value diversity is a hallmark of NJIT.
Joel S. Bloom
President
