Men's Volleyball Extends Win Streak to Six, Feldthus Paces NJIT with 15 Kills in Win Over Princeton
The NJIT men's volleyball team extended its win streak to six, defeating visiting Princeton, 3-1, in EIVA Conference men's volleyball action Saturday afternoon inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center.
NJIT, winners of the last six, which started with a 3-0 home victory over Purdue Fort Wayne, followed up by knocking off then-ranked No. 12 UC San Diego, weekend sweep of LIU and a pair of home EIVA Conference wins over George Mason and Princeton, improving to 6-2 on the season and 2-0 in the league. The Highlanders remain perfect at home with a 5-0 record.
Senior Jens Feldthus led the way for the Highlanders for the second straight match, combining for 15 kills as NJIT defeated Princeton, 17-25, 25-22, 25-22 and 25-17 to secure the 3-1 win.
Three different Highlanders Nolan Wollmer, Alessandro Negri and Carson Williams each recorded eight kills in the win. Williams, the Highlanders middle blocker, hit an impressive .800 for the match on 10 swings to go along with six block assists.
Williams and Martin de Chavarria led NJIT with six total blocks as the home team held an advantage in front of the net, 13.5 to 9.0.
Setter Roque Nido piled up a match-high 33 assists and added five digs and four block assists. Wollmer led NJIT with seven digs followed by Nido (5) and Negri (5).
Negri, who entered the match ranked 12th in the nation in aces per set, posted a team-best three aces.
For Princeton, Nyherowo Omene led all players with 20 kills followed by Alexander Mrkalj with 15.
NJIT will return to action next weekend when the Highlanders visit Sacred Heart (Feb. 18 at 7 p.m.) and Havard (Feb. 19 at 7 p.m.), which will be streamed on ESPN+.
