The NJIT men's tennis team picked up its fifth straight win to open the season with a 7-0 victory over Fordham on Sunday afternoon. The Highlanders have won each of their five matches this season by 7-0 finals.

In singles, a trio of Highlanders earned straight set victories. Perez Ramos highlighted the bunch in the No. 1 spot, winning his match, 6-2, 6-3. Maxime Hankins took home his win in a second set tiebreaker, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), while Tom Sorin took home his victory on the No. 6 court, 7-5, 6-3. Skorjanc had to overcome a first set loss to rally in his No. 2 singles win, 6-7 (6-8), 7-5, 7-6 (7-5). Callo von Platen was tested in No. 3 singles, eventually earning the victory in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Fukuhara outlasted his opponent in the No. 4 slot to win his match, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
"We faced really good competition today, Fordham really pushed us to the brink," head coach Marco Matteucci said post match. "I was happy we were able to get wins in the three-set matches on No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4, they needed it. It was also great to see all the other guys that won in two sets and took care of business."
The Highlanders remain home for one match next weekend as they welcome in Binghamton on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m.
