After one of the most successful seasons in men's tennis history, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its annual regional rankings for teams and individuals and the NJIT men's tennis team was represented on both lists.
The Highlanders were ranked No. 6 in the Northeast Region, its highest team ranking, after winning a program-record 19 matches and qualified for their first NCAA Tournament. NJIT, playing in just its third year in the Southland Conference, won the league title for the first time in program history.
"We had a great year," said third-year head coach Marco Matteucci. "The team is the one responsible for this accomplishment. The staff just gave them the tools to succeed. Half way through the season they felt like they were not working hard enough and we started with the 6 am practice again and that push really set the tone to how much they wanted to succeed this year. We have everyone coming back from the starting line up and adding some new players and we are looking forward to next season to go after another championship!!! #RollTech!!!
