Dear NJIT Community,

After more than four incredibly rewarding years, it is time for me to transition toward a new chapter of professional and personal interests.

I came to NJIT inspired by its amazing trajectory, its community of learners and scholars, and its powerful record of creating social and economic impact. I am very proud to say that, not only has NJIT lived up to my very lofty expectations, it has far exceeded them.

Together, we have achieved extraordinary results:

  • Our national rankings and reputation have continued to ascend, and we now stand among the top 40 public national universities and the top 80 overall in the annual U.S. News & World Report rankings. This is our highest-ever placement and reflects a 23-slot improvement since 2022.
  • Broadened awareness of NJIT’s strength and the value of an NJIT degree has contributed to consecutive years of record first-year enrollment and continued growth in doctoral enrollment.
  • Our status as an R1 (most elite) Carnegie Classification research university was reaffirmed, and we generated more than $550 million in research activity, including a 17% increase in annual research funding, from fiscal years 2023-2025.
  • We advanced student achievement across the university, exemplified by 47 recipients of prestigious scholarships and fellowships over the past three years, more than twice NJIT’s total prior to 2015.
  • We also achieved historic success in philanthropy and alumni engagement, including growing the university’s endowment to an all-time high of $230 million, naming of the Jordan Hu College of Science and Liberal Arts, and completing the single-greatest fundraising year in NJIT’s history.
  • One of NJIT’s accolades I am most proud of is the recognition by Forbes as one of the best employers in New Jersey, attaining the #1 spot this year as the best mid-size employer in the state, which shows our focus on the well-being of our employees.

What Gina and I will cherish most, however, is how warmly the Highlander community embraced us. The friendships we formed with students, alumni, faculty, staff, donors, and university leaders will remain among the greatest gifts of our time here.

Thank you for all you have done to support us in our mission to serve NJIT and its people. It has been an honor to take this journey with you. We will always be proud Highlanders and will continue to champion NJIT from afar.

Go Highlanders!

Sincerely,

NJIT President Teik C. Lim
