The entrance to Village Market
Expect to see a mobile ordering application for Village Market, the convenience store and sandwich shop located on the ground floor of Albert Dorman Honors College, in time for the spring 2020 semester.
Village Market is operated by Gourmet Dining Services along with all other NJIT eateries. Its contract with an online ordering and kiosk company recently ended, so management decided to wait until the ordering company's mobile app is ready next spring rather than renew the web version for another year, Food Services Director David Arluna explained.
The web version opened a few years ago and before that Village Market employees took orders over the phone. Arluna said he's glad to keep up with student trends such as their preference for mobile apps.
Whether the application will be ready when the semester begins or slightly later depends on project delivery logistics. "We're in the process of getting it going, and hopefully I can get it by the spring semester," Arluna said. "Hopefully before. It just depends on implementation."
The application is standardized by the software vendor and NJIT has little say in how it will look. Arluna noted a suggestion for customers to have a notes field for special requests. That option was conspicuously absent from the web version.
