The NJIT women's soccer team opened the 2026 season with a 1-1 draw against Rider on Sunday afternoon at Lubetkin Field at J. Malcolm Simon Stadium.
The Broncs struck first in the 38th minute on their second shot on goal to take the early lead right before halftime.
The Highlanders response came in the 58th minute when freshman Paige Eckert found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal, assisted by junior Sofia Mignon, to tie the match.
Sophomore Penelope Krieger played all 90 minutes in goal for the Highlanders and made two saves, helping the Highlanders secure the result.
Junior Bella Ramirez and freshman Taylor Stuart led the Highlanders with three shots each, while Stuart also led the team with three shots on goal. Redshirt Freshman Caitlin Mahala recorded two shots on goal and Mignon, in addition to her assist on the equalizer, finished with one shot.
The Highlanders led the Broncs in shots (19-6), shots on goal (9-3), and corner kicks (6-1).
Next Up
NJIT will hit the road for the first time this season on Thursday, Aug. 20, as the Highlanders take on UMass at 4 p.m. in Amherst.
