David Marcano Named to the 2020 ASUN Spring Winners for Life Team
NJIT junior David Marcano has been selected to the 2020 ASUN Conference Spring Winners for Life team, the league office announced Thursday.
The team is comprised of one student-athlete from each of the nine institutions and honors those who display excellence on and off the playing surface.
Marcano started all 16 games for the Highlanders this season, which was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The shortstop led the NJIT offense as he hit .317, while slugging .444 and reaching base at a .450 clip (all team-highs).
A Katy, TX, native also led the squad with 20 hits, six doubles and six stolen bases. Marcano was named ASUN Player of the Week on 3/2 after leading NJIT to a series victory at Bucknell. He also recorded a pair of three-hit games against the Bison and doubled in all three games. After starting the season hitless in his first two games, Marcano got into the hit column in eight of the next nine games, including six multi-hit games over that span.
Additionally, Marcano's six doubles ranked second in the ASUN, while his .450 OBP ranked seventh.
The Winners for Life team honors a campus citizen that is respected as one who shares and/or demonstrates the ASUN Core Values: Education, Honesty, Student-Athlete Experience, Fairness, Health, Ambition, Respect, Diversity, Inclusion, Leadership, Responsibility, and Sportsmanship. To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must have competed in the current academic year in an ASUN sponsored sport and be in good academic standing at his/her university.
Marcano joins Rene White of the NJIT Men's Soccer team (Fall) and Shyquan Gibbs of the Highlanders' Men's Basketball team (Winter) as ASUN Winners for Life in 2020.
