Federated Department of Biological Sciences faculty member Brooke Flammang was featured on an episode of the podcast "60-Second Science" hosted by Scientific American. Dr. Flammang and colleagues recently discovered a previously unknown receptor in remora – fish that are uniquely adapted to hitchhiking on other marine organisms such as whales and sharks. This receptor, previously only known in platypus and echidnas, allows remoras to sense touch and likely aids in their ability to affix to other animals. The episode highlights this work, published this January in the journal Royal Science Open Science.
