Barboto, Campoli, Tavares Earn America East Honors, Reisgys Selected to All-Academic Team
Freshmen Maximus Barboto, Andrea Campoli and Hugo Tavares have earned America East Conference All-Rookie team honors while senior Samuel Reisgys was selected to the All-Academic team, the league announced on Friday.
NJIT will make its third consecutive trip to the America East Conference Men's Soccer Postseason Tournament on Saturday, November 5 as the No. 6 seeded Highlanders (5-7-4, 1-4-2 AE) will visit No. 3 seeded UAlbany (4-7-6, 3-1-3 AE).
Barboto, a midfielder from Wayne, NJ, earned America East Conference Rookie of the Week twice this season, tallying four assists which ranks fourth in the America East. Barboto is the son of head coach Fernando Barboto, who is in his seventh season at NJIT.
Campoli, a defender from Rome, Italy, appeared in nine matches, including eight starts on the backline for the Highlanders. Campoli, who was named America East Rookie of the Week once, scored his first collegiate goal against Hartford.
Tavares, a midfielder from Porto, Portugal, has started all 16 matches ranking second on the Highlander team with three goals and tied for second with six points. Tavares has scored in two consecutive contests for NJIT (at UMBC; Oct. 28 & vs. Bryant; Nov. 1).
Reisgys, the Highlander keeper from Rimbach, Germany, has played in every match but one in goal for the Highlanders this season. The co-captain posted a 1.59 goals-against average and a .701 saves percentage. His 235 career saves tops the record books in the NJIT All-Time Division I era. Reisgys has combined for five shutouts and 3.60 saves per game which ranks fourth in the America East. This season, the Highlanders have registered seven shutouts, which ties the NJIT Division I mark for shutouts in a season (7 in 2016). A 2021 America East All-Academic team honoree, Reisgys was named to the Dean's List for six semesters and boasts a 4.0 GPA as a business major.
The America East Conference will announce major award winners on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 3 p.m.
