The NJIT women's tennis team kicked off its 2022-23 fall campaign - and the tenure of newly hired head coach Patricia Piorkowski McDonald - in impressive fashion, securing a pair of victories at the Columbia Invitational/Lion Quad at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center this weekend.
NJIT played full singles and doubles matches against Penn (Friday, 9/16) and Hofstra (Saturday, 9/17) and picked up wins in both. The Highlanders edged out the Quakers, 4-3, and dominated the Pride, 6-1.
NJIT was led by junior Sandra Dzhambazov, who was the only Highlander to play all four matches across the two days (two singles, two doubles) and win them all. Freshman Irene Cocero also went undefeated in three matches over the weekend (2-0 singles, 1-0 doubles).
