New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) alumnus Martin Tuchman, a prominent member of the Princeton, NJ community and a pioneer in the logistics and global trade industry for whom the Martin Tuchman School of Management at NJIT is named, recently connected with another Princeton icon—historic Jeopardy! champion and Princeton University grad Jamie Ding.
The two men met not long ago at the original PJ’s Pancake House in Princeton, which Tuchman owns, after Ding’s historic, 31-show winning streak on the television game show Jeopardy!. Ding amassed $901,615 in total winnings and tied Ken Jennings’ record for the most correct responses in a single game (45) during his streak.
Tuchman, who built his legacy as a problem solver by engineering standardized intermodal shipping systems that move goods around the globe, admires Ding’s accomplishment and shares a similar commitment to public service. While Tuchman is committed to food security (he is the author of Mission Possible, a guide to starting and operating soup kitchens) and education (including through his generous support of his alma mater, NJIT), Ding works at the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency to implement affordable housing policy while also pursuing a law degree. As the co-founder of Interpool and TRAC Lease, Tuchman built companies that became leaders in the container and chassis leasing industry. His work with the American National Standards Institute helped create the language of global shipping still used today.
