Dear Highlanders,
As many of us celebrate the unofficial beginning of summer by gathering this weekend with family and friends while observing the Memorial Day holiday, I hope you will join me in honoring those who sacrificed their lives serving in the United States military. Their courage and selflessness, and that of their families and loved ones, deserves our enduring thanks and appreciation.
NJIT has many students and thousands of alumni who are veterans or active members of the military, and our university has been home to Air Force ROTC Detachment 490 since 1949, with more than 500 Highlanders graduating from that program. NJIT also has a long history of contributing to the military through research and technological innovation related to issues of national defense, security, resource management, and service-member health and wellbeing.
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to NJIT’s many veterans and current members of the Armed Forces for all they have done on our behalf. I also want to thank the families of those who serve or have served, because they share in the sacrifices made by their loved ones, and deserve our deepest appreciation.
