SVP for university operations joins select group of statewide business leaders guiding one of New Jersey's most influential advocacy organizations
NJIT’s Andrew P. Christ, senior vice president for University Operations, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey (CIANJ), effective immediately.
Founded in 1927 and expanded to a statewide organization in 1983, CIANJ is among New Jersey's most prominent business advocacy organizations, convening executives and civic leaders across industries to advance policy, share best practices and strengthen the state's economic climate. Christ joins a select group of board members who guide the association's mission — rooted in free enterprise advocacy, legislative vigilance and fostering an environment where business in New Jersey can thrive.
“As a proud alumnus of NJIT, we are fortunate to have Andrew as part of our Board of Directors,” said Anthony Russo, president of CIANJ. “We are confident Andrew will add great value to CIANJ’s efforts. His wisdom, vision, experience and insights will be welcomed and we look forward to working with Andrew and the NJIT family as we continue to grow CIANJ’s reach between our higher education system and our businesses.”
At NJIT, Christ leads the strategic oversight of university-wide infrastructure and services — a portfolio spanning Real Estate Development, Information Services and Technology, Facilities Services, Campus Planning, Design and Construction, Public Safety, and Environmental Health and Safety. Under his leadership, the university has executed more than $1 billion in campus development, encompassing 1.5 million square feet of new construction and renovated facilities. Among the signature projects he has shepherded are the $110 million Wellness and Events Center and the 548-bed Maple Hall public-private partnership. He also serves as a key contributor to the NJIT 2030 Strategic Plan, ensuring the university's operational units advance its long-term institutional vision.
In 2023, Christ was elected to the National Academy of Construction, a prestigious recognition of his sustained leadership in the construction industry and his service to the broader community. An NJIT alumnus, he holds both a bachelor's and master's degree in Civil Engineering and is a licensed professional engineer in the State of New Jersey. Earlier in his career, he held positions in the automotive manufacturing, pharmaceutical research and development, and consulting engineering industries.
