New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has appointed Kathleen M. Byington as interim senior vice president and chief financial officer, effective September 1, 2026.

Byington comes to NJIT with an abundance of leadership experience in higher education finance, administration, and business operations. During the last 25+ years, she has served as Vice President of Finance and Assistant Treasurer at Northeastern University, Senior Vice President for Administration and Finance at Stony Brook University, Associate Vice President for Academic Finance and Administration at Yale University, Vice President for Administration and Finance at the University of Maryland at Baltimore, Vice President and Chief Business Officer at Georgetown University Medical Center, and Chief Financial Officer at Dartmouth Medical School. She is an alumna of Boston University (B.S. in Biomedical engineering) and Northeastern University (M.B.A. in Finance and Accounting) and has managed annual university operating budgets as large as $3.2 billion.

As the Interim CFO at NJIT, Byington will serve as a member of the university’s leadership team and will have oversight of budget planning, risk management, finance and treasury management, financial systems, and business services.
