NJIT Recognizes and Celebrates Impactful Faculty
New Jersey Institute of Technology’s annual tradition of recognizing university faculty who have excelled as researchers, scholars and instructors took place Oct. 4 in the Central King Building’s Agile Strategy Lab.
“We celebrate the achievements of our faculty and educators here today not because of what they bring to the classroom or the laboratory, but because of the lives they change,” said John Pelesko, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. “We celebrate their commitment to our common goal of student success and the pursuit of knowledge.”
NJIT President Teik C. Lim highlighted the importance of the university faculty in the recent national rankings such as the Wall Street Journal/College Pulse 2024 list of the Best Colleges in the U.S., in which NJIT is the second-highest ranked public university.
“Teaching and innovation are the core of what we do here at NJIT, and our faculty and educators are the foundation for our success in those two critical endeavors,” said Dr. Lim. “This event is designed to celebrate your excellence and its tremendous impact on our students and our university.”
NJIT honored 13 faculty members with various awards including Excellence in Innovative Teaching, Excellence in Instruction by Teaching Assistants, Overseers Excellence in Research, Overseers Excellence in Service, Outstanding Contribution to Teaching at NJIT by Non-Instructional Staff and Special Commendation for Excellence in Teaching.
Bob Medina ’75, chair of the university’s Board of Overseers, recognized the faculty that received Overseers Awards.
In addition to the faculty awards, the ceremony recognized newly promoted and/or tenured faculty. Robert Cohen ’83, ’84, ’87, chair of NJIT Board of Trustees, had the honor of recognizing the 17 newly promoted/tenured faculty members.
“As a three-time alum of this great university, I have seen the impact we have on so many lives,” said Cohen. “Whether through teaching or through research, the impact is measurable. NJIT really does distinguish itself through its community of faculty, staff, students and alumni.”
