NJIT Leaders Earn 'Power' Status in the NJIBIZ Top 50 Education List
Three leaders from New Jersey Institute of Technology have been recognized in the NJBIZ Power Education 50 list, highlighting their influence and impact on education across the state. This annual list recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the education landscape in New Jersey through leadership, innovation and commitment to advancing learning.
Here’s what NJBIZ said about NJIT’s “Power” people:
Teik Lim, NJIT's president, stands out for his transformative vision for the university. Lim continues to guide NJIT through an era of remarkable growth, including improved national rankings and a deeper integration into the economic and social fabric of Newark and New Jersey. His leadership has driven the university’s Strategic Plan, NJIT Makes An Innovation Nexus, which sets ambitious goals through 2030 focused on research, entrepreneurship and sustainability. Under his guidance, NJIT also secured its largest-ever philanthropic gift to support student scholarships, showcasing his dedication to advancing both education and student success.
Oya Tukel, dean of NJIT's Martin Tuchman School of Management (MTSM), has played a pivotal role in aligning the school’s offerings with the demands of the modern marketplace. Since her arrival in 2019, Tukel has launched innovative programs like the Tech MBA and business and sports data analytics degrees, equipping students with the skills needed in today's economy. MTSM is also home to the Leir Research Institute, which integrates research to address critical global challenges, further positioning NJIT as a hub for sustainable economic development.
Michael Johnson, president of NJIT’s New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII), brings a wealth of experience in commercializing cutting-edge technologies. His work at NJII focuses on fostering innovation and upskilling workers through partnerships with industries in healthcare, defense, and artificial intelligence. Johnson’s background as a scientist and entrepreneur positions him to lead NJII in driving forward solutions to global challenges through groundbreaking technology development.
