Accreditation Assessment Team Invites Public Comment

A team of assessors from the New Jersey Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission of the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP) will visit New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) Wednesday, May 17, 2017 to examine all aspects of the NJIT Police Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations and support services, NJIT Police Chief Joseph Marswillo announced today.

NEWARK, New Jersey, May 9, 2017—New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has announced three outstanding individuals who will receive honorary degrees at the 101st Commencement ceremony May 16. Among the honorees is Rochelle Hendricks, New Jersey’s first Secretary of Higher Education, who will receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters and also deliver the Commencement address. NJIT President Joel S. Bloom will preside over the ceremony, which will take place at the Prudential Center in Newark at 9 a.m.

While extolling civic virtues such as patriotism and courage at NJIT's annual Memorial Day Observance Ceremony, this year’s celebrants focused on the individuals, families and communities that infuse these lofty ideals with meaning. “I was born and raised in Newark and I’m still connected to the community. I think those connections are what keeps us respectful of the people we serve,” said Brig. Gen. William Marshall, assistant vice president for government and military relations at NJIT, who gave the keynote address.
NJIT Athletics Holds 2016-17 Athletics Sports Banquet

NJIT Athletics recognized the contributions and accomplishments of over 325 student athletes on its 19 varsity teams for the 2016-17 season at the athletic awards banquet on Wednesday, May 3, on campus at the Campus Center Ballroom. The athletic sports banquet and awards ceremony was a fun-filled night designed to honor the NJIT Highlander teams for all of their hard work on and off the field during the 2016-17 athletic year.
Women's Cross Country Earns APR Public Recognition

The NJIT women's cross country team earned NCAA Public Recognition for posting scores in the top 10 percent of their sport based on its most recent multiyear Academic Progress Rates, the NCAA announced Wednesday. The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement and retention calculated for all Division I sports teams. The Highlanders were part of more than 1,200 NCAA Division I teams recognized with Academic Progress Rate Public Recognition. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 academic years.
MacMillan's Walk-off Home Run Gives Highlanders 13-12 Win Over Fairfield

Senior Rex MacMillan's three-run walk-off home run earned the Highlanders at 13-12 come-from-behind win over visiting Fairfield Tuesday evening in non-conference baseball action at Riverfront Stadium. With runners on first and second in the bottom of the ninth, MacMillan, NJIT's ninth hitter in the lineup, blasted his first home run of his career, a three-run shot, over the left field wall, sending the Highlanders past Fairfield, 13-12.

Fourth Annual Newark Improv Festival

The Rutgers/NJIT Theatre Program and Improv Technicians present the Fourth Annual Newark Improv Festival (NIF4) May 5-6. Free to all, the festival has expanded to two days and includes performers from New York City and the surrounding region. NIF4 is a weekend of free performances and workshops at the Rutgers University-Newark Bradley Hall Theatre located at the corner of MLK Blvd. and Warren St. Jump in to workshops for new improvisers, improv in professional development, musical and hip-hop improv, and more.
EOP Acknowledges Achievements of the Class of 2017

Just weeks before NJIT’s Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) will send its 2017 graduates out into the professional world, it celebrated them at its 45th Annual Awards Ceremony, where a prevailing message was for them to return to NJIT to pay it forward by helping future EOP students. “You did it!” proclaimed Tony Howell, EOP executive director, to the students, families, friends and NJIT administrators and faculty that packed the Campus Center Atrium April 19. “But remember where you began.”
