Dear NJIT Community,
It was shocking and saddening to learn of the shootings that took place on Tuesday at Asian-owned businesses in Atlanta. While the investigation of this incident is ongoing and the motive has not yet been confirmed, this tragedy has resulted in eight lost lives and shines a spotlight on the alarming number of anti-Asian incidents and hate crimes that have occurred throughout our nation in recent months. Regardless of what led to this specific murderous episode, we must clearly acknowledge, speak-out, and commit to repudiating anti-Asian sentiment in all its forms.
We support our Asian-American students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends at this very difficult time, and as our NJIT community knows there is zero tolerance for any form of prejudice. For anyone who may be struggling with their emotions or feelings at this time, I encourage you to avail yourselves of the support provided by NJIT’s Center for Counseling and Psychological Services as well as our contracted mental health services.
NJIT is strengthened and enriched by its diversity, and we must assure that all members of our university community feel respected, supported, and safe at all times. Thank you, stay safe and well.
Sincerely,
NJIT President Joel S. Bloom
