NJIT Community Members,
Today, many of us will have the opportunity to safely gather with family and friends as we mark the Memorial Day holiday and honor those who have died while serving in the U.S. military. That is the purpose of this holiday, so I would like to thank all NJIT’s veterans and current members of the Armed Forces for their service, courage, and selflessness.
NJIT is a university that has hundreds of students and thousands of alumni who are veterans, and NJIT has been the home to Air Force ROTC Detachment 490 since 1949. That unit has been training and commissioning new leaders, as 2nd Lieutenants, for the United States Air Force for more than 70 years. NJIT also has an extensive history of contribution to the military through research and technological innovation related to issues of national defense, security, resource management, and servicemember health and wellbeing.
We, at NJIT, believe it is an important component of our mission to support those serving on our behalf in the United States military. So, please join me in thanking those who have served or are actively serving.
In addition to honoring members of the military today, I encourage each of us to also remember those who lost their lives to the pandemic from which we now are emerging, particularly those in the medical professions whose exposure came as a result of serving others.
May you have a peaceful and joyous Memorial Day.
Sincerely,
NJIT President Joel S. Bloom
