A Loss in Our Community

Dear NJIT Colleagues:

It is with great sadness that I share the loss of Maria Thérèse Nakhle-Deek, beloved mother of NJIT Senior Executive Vice President and Provost Fadi P. Deek `85, `86, `97. Maria Thérèse also was mother-in-law to Maura Deek `86 and grandmother to Matthew `11, Rebecca `16, and Andrew `13, whose wife, Michelle `18, also is an NJIT alumna.

Maria Thérèse succumbed to an aggressive form of cancer last week, with Fadi and other loved ones by her side in Lebanon. Maria Thérèse led a life of devotion to her family and to others, raising five sons and both volunteering as a teacher and assisting those with various health needs throughout her life. Please join me in offering condolences to Fadi, Maura, and their entire family.

Fadi and Maura have established three scholarships at NJIT, two of which are in their parents' names. Those wishing to do so may make donations in Maria Thérèse’s memory to the Pierre and Thérèse Deek Endowed Scholarship. Contributions may be made online or mailed to the NJIT Office of Development & Alumni Relations (323 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Eberhardt Hall 315, Newark, NJ 07102). Please make your check payable to "The Foundation at NJIT," and note Pierre and Thérèse Deek Endowed Scholarship in the memo line.
