Hillier College Logo Design by Bogdan Seredyak
It was a very fruitful time during my 2007-2012 studies at what was then NJIT's CoAD. Before, the New Jersey School of Architecture was still growing and exploring new ways to engage with the latest computer and fabrication techniques. It was great to be a part of that process. I'd like to give a special thank you to Professor Stephen Zdepski, who really helped me shape a grander view on the architecture profession as a whole. After receiving my bachelor's degree from NJIT I went to work in many diverse offices in New York and abroad, ranging from high end residential to commercial spaces as well as my recent practice within urbanism. Now I have decided to pursue graduate studies in architectural computation via the US Fulbright program. Currently, I am working with NJIT's program advisor on my application. When designing the HCAD logo, I wanted to reflect the personally witnessed paradigm shift that the role of an architect and the profession is going through today. AI, big data and automation are changing our built environment and how we design. Cities slowly get reengineered around these digital infrastructures, so the role of an architect becomes more and more like of a game designer or a visual artist. Hillier College now offers wide course selections and fabrication facilities that are of the utmost relevant to the fast-paced times we live in. The new HCAD logo stripped of all the unnecessary iconography of the past is looking into this dynamic future. Its font with roots in industrial use is unadorned and utilitarian, yet with more playful connecting elements becomes effectively contemporary. Now, like never before, it is important for schools as well as designers to evolve and explore new solutions to ever changing climate. Such is my career vision and what the updated HCAD logo represents.
