Change to Winter Break Schedule and Early Closing

NJIT Faculty and Staff,
As part of our efforts to thank and support our NJIT colleagues, the university is adding an additional paid holiday to the winter break. This additional day is in recognition and appreciation of our faculty and staff, who have made extraordinary efforts to advance our mission during the COVID-19 pandemic. Remote working and teaching, virtual and in-person classrooms, support services for students, caring for the safety of the NJIT community and its physical plant, initiating and maintaining research and laboratory operations while adjusting to critically important public health measures have enabled our university to meet these challenges through agility, commitment and hard-work.
The university will close for Winter Break from December 24 through January 1. Previously, the break was from December 25 to January 1.
Employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement are not automatically eligible, because their time off is set by their contract. Human Resources will reach out to those unions, where applicable, to discuss whether these days may be included for the bargaining units.
I am asking that offices remain open through December 23 to ensure critical functions are performed and the needs of students, faculty and staff are met.
Thank you for your continued service, and we wish you a wonderful winter break.
President Joel S. Bloom
